Bike the Country Barn Quilt Trail!!!

On October 8th, 2011, Kendall’s 2nd Bike Run of the Country Barn Quilt Trail will take place in conjunction with Kendall’s Annual Scarecrow Festival. The bike run will begin at 10 a.m. at the Kendall Elementary School, which is located at 1932 Kendall Rd. Enjoy beautifully handcrafted wooden quilt blocks and rustic barns as you bike along the scenic countryside. Afterwards, join in the many festivities of Kendall’s Annual Scarecrow Festival, which will include food, crafts, and entertainment for all! Largest Sunflower Seed Head Growing Contest!!!

This year we will be holding a Sunflower Head Contest! This contest consists of trying to grow the biggest sunflower head.

However, there are some rules and regulations:
1. You must pick up the sunflower seeds from Partyka Farms and register. The sunflower seed head entered must be grown from the seeds provided by Partyka Farms.
2. Only those who register will be allowed to compete in this contest.
3. Each participant will receive a bag that contains 5 sunflower seeds.
4.Each seed can be planted.
5. On September 17th, 2011 each participant must bring their sunflowers to our farm market at 3 p.m., where the actual contest will be held- judging will be for the largest diameter sunflower seed head.

The contest will be broken up into different age groups:
Children- ages 4- 11
Youth- ages 12-17
Adult- ages 18 and up
The winner of each group will receive a $10 gift certificate and “bragging rights.”

Cooking, Canning, and Freezing Classes!!!

This year Partyka Farms will be offering cooking, canning, and freezing classes. They will be taught by Maxine Downey and will begin in June. We hope to make the kitchen a place of nutrition, excitement, joy, and learning through these classes. Farm fresh produce and ingredients will be used to create handmade and chemical-free dishes, and they will showcase seasonal produce. Below is a list of the various classes offered and times.

June 2011
Strawberry Jam- Offered: Thurs. 6/16 or Sat. 6/25
Make cooked and freezer jam. Learn about jams, preserves, and conserves.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie- Offered: Sat. 6/18, Thurs. 6/23, or Tues. 6/28
Make flaky handmade crust- other fruits may be available.

Cream Puffs & Strawberry Shortcake- Offered: Tues. 6/14, Tues. 6/21, or Thurs. 6/30
Made with fresh strawberries. Puffs: eclair- like dough made with farm fresh eggs. Shortcake: flaky biscuits and homemade whip cream.

Times:
Tues.: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Thurs.: 6:30- 8:30 p.m.
Sat.: 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Upcoming Summer Sessions
Dips, sauces, and appetizers- combined or 3 separate sessions.
Healthy Drinks and Dried Fruit
Dice, chop, and saute- grilled produce to complement any meal.
Cajun Cooking
Grilled Pizza
Fresh Spring Rolls

Kids in the Kitchen: 5-8 yrs., 9-12 yrs., and 13+ yr. groupings
Me and You…Make 2: Cooking with a friend
Date Night: Bring your date and celebrate!
Summer Sessions: 4 days long. Kid cooking combined with reading, journal writing, and measurement.

Each class is limited to a size of 8 persons. Sessions are $25 per person. Hours can be flexible, depending upon the group. Family groups or create your own sessions are available upon request as well. We are also open to any other suggestions you may have and have a suggestion box located at the market. OUR 5th ANNUAL COUNTRY BARN QUILT TRAIL QUILT SHOW!!!

This coming weekend, from May 6th through May 8th, Partyka Farms will be holding our Annual Country Barn Quilt Trail Quilt Show at our farm market at 1420 County Line Rd Kendall, NY. This event will last from 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free! Come on out to see beautifully made quilts by local quilters. There will also be vendors, a quilt raffle, and tasting samples from the farm market. This years quilt raffle is a quilt of “The Farmer’s Daughter.” Additionally, Schwenks Winery will have a wine tasting table as well. Before you leave, you can grab a map and tour the lovely countryside and barn quilts. Bring your mothers on out for a countryside treat for Mother’s Day!

Now Open for the Season!!!!

Partyka Farms is now open for the season!!! We have been busy making multiple new changes this past winter, including some remodeling. We have also added a variety of new products to our giftshop, inlcuding greeting cards, baking mixes, bath and body products made right in Canandaigua, NY, garden art, a mixture of new bulk products, and more! Stop on by to check out these new changes! We are open everyday from 9 a.m. til 8 p.m. However, we will be closed on Easter Sunday. We hope to see you soon!!!

Take a Stroll in the Countryside!!!

On October 9th, 2010, the town of Kendall is hosting their Annual Scarecrow Festival. This year there are a number of festivities set to occur. Some of these festivities include food vendors, craft vendors, face painting, the scarecrow contest, and music. In addition, this year we will be holding our first Festival Bike Run of the Country Barn Quilt Trail, which was created by our very own Lora Partyka! This bike run will begin promptly at 9 a.m. at the Kendall Elementary School. Participants can choose to ride the full 20 mile barn quilt trail, enjoy a 5 mile family ride, or simply take a casual ride through the country to see a few of these beautifully handcrafted quilts! Enjoy the Sweet Tastes of Summer!

It isn’t truly summer until peaches, sweet corn, and tomatoes have arrived! Partyka Farms now has all three. Each are juicy, sweet, delicious, and HOMEGROWN. Our sweet corn is a sugar enhanced variety…and it is the best sweet corn you will ever have! GUARANTEED!!!

Also, right now we currently have Red Haven peaches. This variety is great for canning…especially since it is a free stone variety. This means that the peach comes clean off the pit.

Finally, our field tomatoes are now ready. Currently, we are selling these in pints and quarts. Hopefully by next week we will be able to sell them by eight quart baskets and bushels.

U-Pick Raspberries: A Time for Family Bonding

In search of a new activity that will allow your family to experience a time of bonding? Search no more- Partyka Farms allows this lost practice to occur. We now have U-Pick Raspberries! Stop by with your family and pick pints of raspberries together. Our raspberry bushes are currently loaded with large, juicy, and sweet raspberries- perfect for eating, baking, freezing, or making jam/jelly. And it only costs $2.00 per pint! We encourage you to bring your own baskets, but we have pints available as well for only 5 cents. Afterwards, cool down with a refreshing ice cream cone and relax in our wonderful play yard, which offers endless fun for both kids and adults! We hope to see you soon!
